UDC Weekly roundup ‘What India Can Teach the Rest of the World About Rainwater Conservation?’

Kerala has the good fortune of being drenched in two rainy seasons annually. In spite of this, it suffers from acute water shortage for nearly half the year; owing to the undulating topography and uncontrolled practices like excessive ground water pumping, water wastage, etc.

Since the early 2000s there have been various attempts by different organizations and government bodies to conserve rain water and recharge the ground water.
Today, after more than a decade, these attempts are proving to be succesful water conservation models, that can be perhaps replicated in other parched regions.

Montgommery talks about what constitutes happiness for us as individuals and where does it cross path with urban design.
He elaborates on a few of his experiments conducted to understand how people react to the urban landscape.
