Here is a fantastic and totally brilliant time lapse video assembled by videographer, Jeff Desom with footage from Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, a delightful piece of film noir written by John Michael Hayes and based on Cornell Woolrich’s 1942 short story “It Had to Be Murder”.
The expanded frame in the video allows for a single panoramic view of the city block that was painstakingly put together by Hitchcock.
That’s right…. if you did not know already, the entire picture was shot on one set, which comprised an apartment-courtyard measuring 98 feet wide, 185 feet long and 40 feet high, and consisted of 31 apartments, eight of which were completely furnished. The courtyard was set 20 to 30 feet below stage level, and some of the buildings were the equivalent of five or six stories high. And as if this wasn’t enough, all the apartments had electricity and running water, and could be lived in!!!!
Watch this video and be blown away… because that’s what too much brilliance in one sitting does.
